Round 2 predictions

April 29th, 2009 by Ian

ok, so i only went 5-3 in the first round but i admitted up front that i was taking a chance on the Flames and i honestly didn’t really believe the Canes could best the Devils.  nobody that i know saw the Sharks mess happening, there’s plenty of rumour that the Sharks are going to blow it up a bit and move Thornton.  go ahead and send him to my Leafs, i don’t mind, at all.

Boston vs. Carolina - the Canes have it going on guys.  dare i say it, i’m taking them in 7 games.  there has been a ton of hope for the Bruins because it’s been so long for them but the Canes have a goalie who’s done it before and i’m thinking that he wants to do it again.  i don’t think the Canes match up well with the Bruins in terms of toughness but maybe it’s a gut call, give me the Canes.  man i hope this doesnt bite me in the ass.

Washington vs. Pittsburgh - this is going to the scoring matchup of the 2nd round.  my work pool allows you to pick players for one round only so i’m loading up on this series and i’m picking Crosby, AO and Semin.  the Pens have the better well balanced offense, they have more defenders who can do better across the board and they have the experienced goaltender.  as much as i think the NHL wants the Caps to move on i figure that the team most loved by Canadians if they can’t pick an Canadian based team will come out on top of this.   both goalies are going to have plenty of rubber welts though.  Pens in 6.  by the way, did you notice the amount of ice time that AO was taking in game 7?  that’s insane and they won’t succeed if he continues doing that.

Detroit vs. Anaheim - the makeup of the Wings is vastly different than the makeup of the Sharks and i don’t see the Ducks doing to the Wings what they so efficiently did to Big Joe and the boys.  the Wings are the most balanced team in the league amongst their skaters and their goaltender isn’t the sieve that many pundits were saying he was prior to round 1.  i like Getzlaf to continue to produce and i figure Perry will be heard from more but i didn’t hear or see nearly enough out of Selanne or Ryan in round 1.  things’ll get tougher for the Ducks.  give me the Wings in 6 (if they even need that much).

Vancouver vs. Chicago - i’ll like this matchup the most i think.  i take my breaks everyday at work with a Hawks fan and a Canucks fan so you can guess what the conversation has been like lately.  Bobby Lou is just plain the best goalie in the game and Khabby looked rather normal in the first round.  the Hawks have the better D and the 2 teams top 6 might be a wash in comparison  but there’s no comparing the goaltending and that’ll be the difference in the series, like most playoff series.  give me the nucks in 6.

I think the Nucks are gonna make it to the finals, cause I agree Luongo is hands down the best goalie in the world.

Please don’t trade Joe Thornton, please don’t trade Joe Thornton (or Marleau, for that matter).

That Pit-Was series is going to be a showcase event for the NHL. That thing better be on prime time.

haha. someone in my office pool picked 7 of 10 players from anaheim. he could come out like a genius if the ducks keep it going. they seem to have that playoff “mojo” going right now.

is it me, or was carolina the worst possible outcome for the bruins? seems to me like their depth would handle the pens/caps, but the canes have intriguing depth of their own and ward is looking legit.

Canes do match up well against the bruins but they have the depth aswell
